Magic Kaito

     Magic Kaito (まじっく快斗, Majikku Kaito) is a shōnen manga series by Gosho Aoyama, about a thief named Kaitou Kid. Aoyama stopped work on the manga after three volumes due to the fact that he started Detective Conan, which was an instant hit. Aoyama intends to continue working in this manga, and possibly turn it to an anime, once he is finished with the infinite Detective Conan. Chapters of the Magic Kaito manga have been released in Shōnen Sunday since then, and have only recently been collected into a fourth volume in February 2007. Four chapters have been adopted into Detective Conan episode and OVAs: Volume 3 File 5 (Chapter 18) - Kid vs. Yaiba was adopted into Detective Conan OVA 1 - Conan vs Kid vs Yaiba - The Decisive Battle over the Treasured Sword; Volume 4 File 1 (Chapter 21) - Crystal Mother was adopted into Detective Conan OVA 4 - Conan and Kid and the Crystal Mother; and Volume 4 Files 3-4 (Chapters 23-24) - Black Star 1-2 was adopted into the first half of Detective Conan episodes 219 - The Gathered Detectives! Shinichi vs. Kaito Kid (Two Hours Special).

Plot:
     Kaito Kuroba, a normal teenage student comes upon the secret about his father's death. He realizes his father was the famous Phantom Thief 1412, and was killed by an organization for refusing to steal the Pandora Gem for them. The Pandora Gem is said to shed a tear under the full moonlight, and whomever shall drink it, shall gain immortality. Kaito Kuroba then decides to search for that Jewel to prevent the organization from retrieving it. To do so, he takes on his father's role as Phantom Thief 1412, and becomes Phantom Thief Kid, also known as Kaito Kid (怪盗キッド ,Kaitō Kiddo) and begins his search on the Pandora Gem.
     Kaitou Kid/Kaito Kuroba has also appeared in a number of episodes of Detective Conan, as well as his father Tōichi Kuroba, his childhood friend Aoko Nakomori and her father Ginzo Nakamori, and his rival Saguru Hakuba, which are all also characters from Magic Kaito.
     On the other hand, Shinichi Kudo and Inspector Megure from Detective Conan also appears in two Magic Kaito chapters, Volume 4 Files 3-4 (Chapters 23-24) - Black Star 1-2.
